Nick Makoha joins Kayo Chingonyi and Terrance Hayes at Africa Writes

KUMUKANDA BY KAYO CHINGONYI AND KINGDOM OF GRAVITY BY NICK MAKOHA
part of Africa Writes 2017

The poets present their debut collections in conversation with Terrance Hayes.

Kayo Chingonyi’s debut collection of poems is a journey through Black boyhood and beyond, encompassing a thoughtful and nostalgic flare that is underpinned by a love of music, language and literature. This collection is an exploration of race, identity and masculinity, celebrating what it means to be British and not British, all at once.

Nick Makoha’s collection Kingdom of Gravity of poems relate in narrative terms to the horrors of the civil war in Uganda.  This is a poet’s archive of the unsaid, but also much more than that, as it charts the impact of imperialism and neo-colonialism in the life of the nation and explores flight, exile and longing in the lives of the people.

Included in Weekend Pass and Saturday Day Ticket.

Supported by Speaking Volumes Live Literature Productions

Terrance Hayes’ UK visit is hosted by Speaking Volumes. He will also be speaking at the event Celebrating the Centenary of Gwendolyn Brooks which takes place at The British Library on Thursday 29th June.
